I thought this was a fantastic show. The Hollywood Bowl is an amazing historic venue and to see one of my favorite live acts there with a great group of friends was a privilege.

Was the show seamless and perfect no but they played a lot of great tunes with precision and energy.

Personal highlights: DWD opener rearin and a kickin out of the gate.
Possum (not a repeat if you weren’t at the Gorge), Cities, Peaches..hell yea! Nice trifecta .
Tube short and sweet GBOTT was fun and stretched out just enough.

Wilson>Axilla also solid and remember...it's not a repeat if you weren’t at the Gorge.

Second set: I wormed my way down to a friends Garden box and was in tight.

Carini: was dark and mean,

Crosseyed: 2nd Talking heads tune of the night and this song never disappoints, very tight flowing and jammed out. Great one two punch to open set II

Mike’s>Joy >Weekapaug, 50 Ways>HYHU>Weekapaug: awesome sequence.

Mike’s was filthy, dark and mean just they way I like it.
Joy : better than Simple in this spot and “I just want you to be happy” is hard to argue with.
Weekapaug: always bassy fun. Page crushed the Moog for a nice stretch and it sounded very crunchy yet clean and really did it for me. Then Trey put down his guitar mid song and took John’s spot to continue a seamless three way Weekapaug jam. While they set up Fishman’s jr drum kit front and center for 50 Ways . I was impressed. I was in close and watched it all go down; very cool to see and hear Trey move to the full kit and watch them play musical chairs switching things up.

50 Ways>HYHU>Weekapaug: I was glad Fishman did Paul Simon right with a faithful cover of a very classic song then hammed it up with a few laps around the stage….worth a listen.

Zero f^&*ing rocks every time I find it hard not to like this song.

Quinn, Plan and Julius were all fun and well played but not earth shattering for me.

I love this band and where they take me.

Side note to all the people posting negative reviews and spewing hate across the internet about a band you love or once loved stop it. Don’t live in the past or the negative. Find something you like in the music and the people you are sharing it with, especially if you were not even at the show!!! So much of a Phish show is about your mindset and the people you surround yourself with. Get busy living and stop dwelling on the negative or just stop listening if it’s not working for you anymore.

This show has garnered some attention for its unusual Piper, spare-then-snarling (but still 'Type I') Crosseyed, jaunty-then-saucy (but still...) Twist, now-conventionally mode shifting Carini, and surprise Weekapaug > 50 Ways > Weekapaug sandwich. Well, that's about right. It's another fine Summer 2011 show, though without a marquee jam or obvious selling point, unless of course you're some kind of Paul Simon obsessive(?!). Anyhow, hard drives are cheap so it's worthwhile to grab the opening sequence of the second set at least.

cry me a river!!! what body part i wouldn't trade to be at these shows i don't know...what i do know is repeats or not phish is throwing down solid shows at every stop..and so what if it is the year of the possum? can't wait til colorado where the road will be my new beginning!

First time seeing them in person. This show changed my life!

Very strange parking lot situation at the Bowl. A series of lots are built into a hillside and cars entering just pull in one after the other. The lots are about 6 cars wide. I was lucky to be one of the first ones out, because I'm sure there were people stuck there for awhile.

The show itself is good. not great or terrible, just good. This show is considered rather unremarkable, especially since it took place on such a fantastic run. There's merit there, but I would like to say that this Peaches is nailed, Tube is an "above average" jamless version, and the opening quadfecta of the second set is worth a listen. Piper especially. It's a very strange jam and hard to navigate. Lots of ideas crashing around. Cool take.

50 Ways was actually a cool cover. Fishman forgot the words to a verse, but all in all it was nice.

This is a show that doesn't require an urgent listen, but was probably important to the band on a variety of levels. Glad to have been there.

This was my least favorite of the three shows I attended in summer 2011. This is not to say that it was a bad show. My opinion is obviously colored by my mood during the show and the presence of over-bearing security.
The versions in the first set were extremely well played with enthusiasm.
We all have our own way of enjoying a show. I like to move around. Staying in one place for too long is boring for me. I like to enjoy the scene and the music from different vantage points.
Security made this difficult.
There were strong points in set 2.....
As a matter of fact the Carini>C&P>Twist>Piper>Mike's was VERY intense.
Strong ending with Character Zero>Quinn.
I will never get tired of Julius.

Cool venue otherwise....it was nice to get a wide selection of beers they had at the 'convenience store' inside the show.

Overall a beautiful southern California night.

This event was a life changer!
And it had NOTHING to do with the music from the show!! Not a note!

At set break the fans who attend shows clean and sober, some folks who do this are called The Phellowship (there's a table usually near the Waterwheel table with that name, The Phellowship, printed on a table cloth), meet up at the table for a basic AA type meeting. If you've never been you're lucky, but you've prob seen one depicted in TV/movies, so yeah there's a meeting and you can share about whatever you want for a minute or two. There was a crowd of about 50 people, which was a lot to me since it was my first Phellowship meeting and didn't know anyone went to a show/church/hockey games/life completely clean/sober.
But what was astounding to me was at the end of the meeting. We all circled up and held hands to say the 3 lined sign off that typically ends an AA meeting.
"i'm good enough, i'm sma- "
jk they say the Serenity Prayer:
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference."
But what the fuck happened?? You must be askin', hopin' reading this was the least bit worth your time. Here's somethin you can take from reading this if my own tale doesn't suffice- the Serenity Prayer was not started by AA. It was first written by the theologian, Reinhold Niebuhr in 1932- three years before AA started. OK back to the show!

The Phellowships Serenity Prayer started like this:
"Dude, grant me the serenity...
"DUDE..."??
This one word difference, after having gone to hundreds of meetings and hearing about God, changed and strengthened my personal ability to have, cultivate, and engage with a higher power. I had an epiphany, a moment of clarity (even though I'd been clean & sober for 11 months at this time), and even what I'd deem the closest feeling I've had to experiencing a miracle. All because of the word "dude" lol. It was weird to me, too.
The very best weird ever.
I didn't enjoy much of the show- I probably should have gone with someone who had more clean/sober time- but I did enjoy bumming a cig to the actress Alexis Knapp and her just as astounding friend, Krystal M. Harris. We talked for awhile. This was before she was in Pitch Perfect or Project X- but at the time I had just been cast playing William Shakespeare in an interesting play about him having writers block, then falling thru time to a present day bar where Hamlet, MacBeth, King Lear, and eventually Mercutio are sitting around lamenting the fact that they are killed nightly in every production of their respective plays. In fact, they're mad at me, Will. Anyways, that went well even if no one saw it cuz it's hard to get an audience in LA for a play. But, I got to discuss acting with a couple actors at a phish show moments after having my brain straightened further, directing it down the correct straight and narrow plain of sobriety, for me.
I will admit that Alexis Knapp is a good looking woman. But talking with her at my first sober show was altogether buzz'zedding!
I strode the fuck away from that conversation like a collector of VHS leaving a Back To The Future machine. You've not seen those machines.

Haha then Fishman said somethin' about his routine bein' like a talent show and he then played that broken wheel supermarket cart drumbeat (very hard to play/deal with) real well, only messing the lyrics up once, and only slightly.
And that first set Melt was especially jonky- it got me amazed. Then that X-eyed was faster'n hell and full of fun. Piper was too.
I love Stealing Time From The Faulty Plan, so the encore was great.
This song is as weird and wonderful as many of their classic straighforward songs, and the fact it was written in 2004, but included on Joy, the sober soldier album, gives the song an air of 360 degree meaning...

I thought it was a great show! Might not have had bing long drawn out jams. But a solid great show a lot of fun and good vibes!
Just plain old solid... Light show is worth a DVD...

My first summer tour show (Worcester last). Yes alot of repeats but they were tight. Great lights. The Bowl is special place. 50 ways was really good, not a joke. Weekapaug rocked.
