It's nice to hear the new piano open up with a good Cup. Mike slips in a random note signal before going into an ok Foam. There are some rough parts in there. Guelah also has signals and was pretty dynamic. Reba had an ok start, a rough middle and a good jam. Hey, the first Sloth of the year! That explains the sloppiness and loose timing. Divided Sky also had strange spots. The first Tela of the year is nice to hear, but again not the tightest. Llama rocks as usual. IDK has a funny part where Trey and Fish explain their bet of $800 that Fish will not be late for the bus this tour. I wonder how long that lasted? IDK was unfinished for a bust-out of Catapult! Nicely done. Good solid Antelope to close really helps this set get up to average status. Definitely an off Mike night.
Jim is a promising opener for second set, very well played. Ice was good with a little added noise from Mike and Trey in the middle section. Coil was also well played. Tweezer was pretty standard. They must have felt Mike's pain as Trey brings them into I Walk the Line. Sparkle was a little off. YEM was ok, but there may have been equipment problems because Mike disappears for quite a while throwing the whole climax off. The jam at the end was ok segueing nicely into the Horse, which of course brings out the acoustic. The timing on Silent is still off. HYHU brings out Fish for the first Rosie of the year. They also need to relearn this one as Page and Mike have problems, even though it's a joke. Possum was a little off and rushed as the back end of this set is not as good as the front.
Adeline was unfinished due to Fish's poor singing. An average Grace tries to make up for it. Hell, even Tweeprise sounds a little off tonight. Not the greatest of encores.
This one is three stars to me; even though experimentation is a necessary part of this band, they just didn't quite pull it off on this really weak Mike night.
